James-Spader-Actors-1440x1920By Erin Parisien

Hello Schmoeville!

Now that we’ve all had a few days to let the awesomeness of the first The Avengers: Age Of Ultron trailer sink in, it’s time to get back to business; Discussing the crap out of everything that we just witnessed. And, thankfully, we’re getting some help along the way, in the form of the actor that is bringing Marvel’s latest big bad to life, Mr. James Spader.

Speaking with Total Film (via Comicbookmovie, com) here’s what the actor had to say about bringing Ultron to life:

When you first meet Ultron, his physicality is very different to what he evolves to. It was in the script but we arrived at the metamorphosis of him on the set. In practice, in rehearsals … We were able to create the physicality of the character on the motion-capture stage. They would dot me up and I was wearing a helmet that had two cameras on my face, and they could live stream it to a monitor so we could try different things. Then I’d go and shoot the scene with the other actors and they’re recording all of it, including my voice. 9 times out of 10 they were not using ADR (additional dialogue recording) after the fact.

Spader considers himself very “detail oriented” and found the whole thing to be a great experience:

If you he wanted to add something, or change something, you had the opportunity to do that. I just loved it.

All right, Schmoeville, be honest… how many times have you watched the Age Of Ultron trailer now? Me, I lost count sometime earlier this week. The trailer is spectacular and it’s everything that I didn’t realize that I wanted in a first trailer. It’s hauntingly beautiful and anchored by that amazing voice-over by James Spader. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again… Spader’s casting was genius on Marvel’s part. He plays the bad guy so well, and I have no doubt that he is going to bring something special to the MCU in Ultron. I honestly didn’t think I could be any more excited for this film, by my anticipation and expectations are now through the roof. May better get here fast!

The film stars Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Samuel L. Jackson, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Jeremy Renner, Chris Evans, Paul Bettanyand James Spader and is directed by Joss Whedon. The Avengers: Age Of Ultron is set for release on May 1, 2015.

So, Scmoeville, what do you think? Do you like this interview? Are you excited for the film (I mean, seriously, who isn’t?)? Do you love the fact that Andy Serkis has been working with Marvel and it’s mo-cap actors? Comment below and let’s talk about The Avengers: Age Of Ultron!
