Hey Schmoeville!
Welcome back to another installment of Comic Book Showdown, and this time around, I have a pretty interesting match-up for you all. So far, every week we’ve talked about who would win between some of comic’s biggest heroes and anti-heroes if they faced off against each other. Sometimes we’ve agreed on the outcome, and sometimes we haven’t. But this time around, we’re not pitting two heroes of comics against each other, instead we’re going to be discussing and analyzing who would win in a fight between two of the most powerful and dangerous villains in all of comic books. So who would really win in a fight between Marvel’s Mad Titan Thanos and DC’s Darkseid?
Well that’s what we’re here to find out!
I think it’s pretty safe to say that when it comes to villains that no one wants to mess with, these two are at the top of the list. Darkseid’s intellect, strength, and powers make him one of the most terrifying and powerful villains in the entire DC Universe, if not the most dangerous. Meanwhile, Thanos is someone who literally fights to have as many people die as possible in order to please his love, Mistress Death. So I’m actually really excited to see who would win in a fight between these two, it’s definitely going to be one of the more interesting match-ups we’ve talked about so far.
As usual though with these match-ups, I have to throw is some caveats and specifications into this list in order to make sure that we’re all clear on how this fight is staged etc.
CAVEATS: So with these two, there are only a few caveats I have to throw in. First of all, these are the two original versions of these characters going at it with their individual skill sets, nothing else. There is no prep time for either before this fight as well. There also isn’t anyone that will come in and help either of them, it’s just these two having a straight-up brawl with each other in a arena-like environment. Also, I just have to say, no Thanos does not have access to the full Infinity Gauntlet in this battle,c’mon! We have to make this at least a little interesting! But since Thanos doesn’t get the Gauntlet, then Darkseid doesn’t get his minions of Apokolips or the Anti-Life Equation either. Just to make it fair.
So in order to really break down this fight, we have to analyze each individual’s powers and abilities. So without any further ado, let’s do it!
Darkseid is one of the New Gods. His powers include:
- Superhuman Strength
- Superhuman Intelligence
- Superhuman Speed
- Superhuman Agility
- Superhuman Reflexes
- Superhuman Stamina
- Teleportation
- Superhuman Durability
- The Omega Effect.
Thanos is one of the Cosmic Titans born from the Celestials. His powers include:
- Superhuman Intelligence
- Superhuman Strength
- Superhuman Speed
- Superhuman Stamina
- Superhuman Durability
- Immortality
- Superhuman Reflexes
- Energy Manipulation and Control
- Telepathy
- Sometimes Teleportation.
So with both of these two villains’ powers, weaknesses, and abilities broken down, who has the advantage in this fight? Well the simple fact of it all is that neither one really has the advantage. When it comes to strength, the two are on equal ground, and the same goes for intelligence even if they have superhuman intelligence in different aspects. Thanos is extremely intelligent and focuses on science a lot with his intellect, while Darkseid is extremely smart in a cunning and manipulative way. Between the two’s different intellectual standards, it evens out, so again…. equal.
Sigh, couldn’t this been just a little bit easier?
Anyways, when it comes to energy manipulation and powers, I will actually give this one to Darkseid. While Thanos has the ability to manipulate cosmic energy and project it to hurt his enemies, Darkseid has the Omega Effect. We’ve all seen what his Omega Beams can do when they are used to hurt his enemies, with them being powerful enough to even seriously hurt Superman. But his Omega Effect doesn’t just hurt his enemies, it can also teleport and erase them from existence. So they’re a much more versatile use of energy than Thanos’. So when it comes to energy manipulation and powers, I’ll give Darkseid the advantage here.
Durability wise though, Thanos can last longer. The Mad Titan doesn’t really have a weakness while Darkseid does which is an energy called Radion. It affects him like Kryptonite affects Superman, so if Thanos had that on his hands when he was thrown into the fight, he would win pretty easily. Thanos can’t really die either due to his relationship with Mistress Death, so it would be extremely hard to defeat him. So when it comes to durability, Thanos is the clear winner. So…. with all of that taken into account….
VERDICT
Now, I’ll admit that I’ve been going over this fight in my head for a few days now. Trust me, you can even ask Yodi himself, Mark Reilly and he’ll tell you how much time I’ve spent thinking about who would really win in a gauntlet-less fight. I’ve gone on various message boards and sought out numerous YouTube videos, but with everyone giving great points on why Thanos would win, there’s someone else giving great points on why Darkseid would win. There’s no way of knowing whether or not Thanos have Radion energy with him or not as well.
So with that being said… who do I think would win this fight?
I have no freaking clue! Okay? I really don’t. I’ve been racking my brain for days now trying to figure out who would really win and I even consulted the hosts of our DC and Marvel News Shows on the Schmoes Know Network, Adam Gertler and Matt Key, and they even couldn’t really decide! So I’m going to leave it up to you Schmoeville, you decide who would win. Would it be the Mad Titan? Or the Ruler of Apokolips? …. But let’s face it, if Thanos had the full Infinity Gauntlet in his possession, this would be no contest. Just saying.
