Hello Schmoeville!

Now that the Marvel Cinematic Universe is 10 films in, many a debate has been waged about which of them is the best in the MCU. I have heard a lot of support for The Avengers, but there has been some talk of Iron Man or Captain America: The Winter Soldier sneaking in to take the crown. Now that Guardians Of The Galaxy is poised to become the number one movie of the year domestically, an argument can be made for it as well, as audiences have really responded to the film.

Speaking with the Toronto Sun Robert Downey Jr. voiced his opinion on the topic, saying:

‘Galaxy’ in some ways is the best Marvel movie ever. And it’s odd for someone with — on occasion — an ego the size of mine to actually say that!

You’ve got to love his candor! And, you’ve also got to admit that that’s some pretty heavy praise, given the fact that the actor has been in two of the most well received Marvel films, in The Avengers and the first Iron Man. But, as Guardians proved, it doesn’t seem to matter to audiences what the subject matter is, as long as it’s a Marvel movie, they’re willing to fork over their hard earned money to see it. An idea that isn’t lost on the actor, either:

We’re talking about how the Iron Mans and the Thor’s and the Captain America’s and the Avengers movies have afforded Marvel the opportunity to essentially take what was a third-tier, minor, kind of upstart bit of potential from one of their comic books series and say: ‘Look!’

And it doesn’t look like Marvel is slowing down at all either. With the upcoming releases of both Ant-Man and Dr. Strange, who are hardly household names, it shows that Marvel is willing to do what makes the most sense for its vision, as opposed to what’s the most popular. Sure, we’re still getting The Avengers: Age Of Ultron and Captain America 3 and another Thor movie, but it’s those other, unnamed projects that I think are the most intriguing. The idea that Marvel could choose from any one of its many titles, and would be able to create an amazing film out of it… Well, let’s just say that it’s a great time to be a comic book movie fan. The sky, or should I say the cosmos, is the limit.

So, Schmoeville, what do you think? Do you agree with RDJ? What do you think is the best Marvel film? What titles are you hoping for the studio to reveal? Comment below and let’s talk about the future of Marvel!
